FAQs – Using cameras for Virtual classes and Member’s Portal
Why is there a camera in the studio?
Our teachers will bring a camera to selected classes to enable students taking class from home (via Zoom), and in some cases, through our online Member’s Only Portal.
Will the camera be recording at all times?
Depending on the class, the camera may just be streaming to Zoom, recording for our Member’s Portal, or switched off and prepared for another class.
How will I know if the camera is recording?
The teacher will always let you know before a camera starts streaming or recording, and will point out the location of the camera.
What if I don’t want to be on camera?
The camera will be angled to focus on the teacher, and avoid students in the studio. If a camera is in use, the teacher will always point out it’s location.
If I take part in virtual classes, will my camera also be recording?
No. Only footage of the teacher will be recorded, and only for use by other Members of Downland Dance.
How will you keep the images safe?
Access to our virtual classes, and access to our Online Portal will be password protected to ensure that it is only available to Downland Dance members. Recordings will be monitored, and class videos will be deleted after two weeks. For safeguarding reasons, we will not stream or record the classes of our youngest students.
Will I receive corrections if I take part in virtual classes?
If the class is a virtual class only, then yes, you will receive corrections as normal. If it is a hybrid class however (where it is being streamed from a studio), then the teacher will unfortunately be unable to give corrections to virtual students. The virtual access is intended to provide classes to students who cannot make it to the studio for logistical reasons, or in the case of an overcrowded studio in this time of social distancing. Hybrid classes will allow virtual students a sense of the studio atmosphere!
Are all classes available online?
No. For safeguarding reasons, we are only able to provide online access to selected classes. More information will be available before the start of term.
Will I be monitored if I take the class online?
No. In most cases, the teacher will be unable to monitor students taking classes virtually. Virtual students will have read our virtual classes guidelines and will accept responsibility for their own safety.
I still have questions. Who can I ask?
Please contact your teacher, or Adam Harris: adam@downland-dance.co.uk
